Enhancing the Beauty

The technology of beauty continues to advance, offering non-surgical solutions for some of the most hard to solve cosmetic problems. For many years, people suffering from melasma, or a buildup of melanin that creates blotchy, discolored skin, had no safe and effective options to even out their skin tone. Cosmelan, an innovative, staged treatment is now available to offer relief.
Cosmelan treatment is an effective way to reduce the amount of melanin in the skin, and is compatible with all skin types. It’s safe to use on most types of skin discolorations, such as brown spots, blotchy skin, or acne blemishes. Many patients report a more vibrant skin complexion once the cream has removed dull outer skin layers.
The active ingredients in Cosmelan inhibit the formation of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Without tyrosinase, the melanin molecules that discolor your skin are broken up before they can even form. Patients may see up to a 95% reduction in spots and blemishes.
The treatment process uses three types of creams during two separate treatment phases to gradually reduce the appearance of dark spots and discolorations.
Phase One: Application of Cosmelan 1 at our plastic surgery offices
Cosmelan 1 cream combines many active ingredients (azelaic, kojic, phytic, and ascorbic acids, arbutine, and titanium dioxide) to gently peel away your top layers of skin, revealing skin that is more evenly pigmented. After application in our Los Angeles office, you will leave the cream on your face for between four and eight hours, depending on your skin complexion.
Phase Two: Daily application of Cosmelan 2 and Hydra Vital Factor K cream
Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream uses titanium dioxide, along with kojic acid, phytic acid, and ascorbic acid, to steadily improve your skin tone and maintain the lightened results you’ve already achieved. The Hydra Vital Factor K cream helps to moisturize and protect your face and neck skin during the treatment process. You apply both daily on your own, working the creams into the skin using light, circular motions.
Following your in-office treatment, your skin may appear red for a couple of days, not unlike a moderate sunburn, and then will begin to peel. During this process, some patients report itching or a mild burning sensation, but discomfort usually is controlled by using the Hydra Vital Factor K cream. After the redness and peeling have stopped, the treated skin should appear more luminous, and dark spots will begin to fade. As the Cosmelan 2 applications continue, skin spots will appear lighter and lighter.
